Hundreds of years ago, Britain was a network of routes which were used by horses.

Government Regulations setting out the procedures for the setting up and running of Local Access Forums (LAF) came into force on the 7 August 2002. Under this new Act must consider improvements to the Right of Way network (ROWIP) to support local requirements. Bedfordshire county Council must have draft plan ready by November 2003. Other highway authorities in the country in turn will produce their own plans by 2007, based on the hard work of Bedfordshire county council.

Long Lane access (FP36)
Surely there could be better use of this quite underpass under the M1
to provide safe off road routes for cyclist and horse riders.

Woburn Road (A507)

The connection from BW23 to BOAT18 is via a incredible dangerous fast moving road. Horse riders are FORCED to trespass in the woods this has angered the owners of the woods. The many tracks in the woods look much nicer then the busy road.

Section 71 of the Highways Act 1980: places a duty on the highways authorities to provide in or by the side a highway, adequate margins where they consider it necessary, or desirable for the safety of ridden horses.
With the increase in this leisure activity, the potential for accidents will occur.

Safe Horse riding in woods?
For a safe off ride why not try and ride around many of the woods we have in our area? The woods of Millbrook Steppingley and Flitwick Plantation are now all marked as PRIVATE. The owners have gone to extra ordinary steps to stop horse riders riding on paths which are found criss-crossing the woods.  Please click here for a close up hard to see wire that can be found across many of  such tracks.

WG: As a young girl we used to out for rides from Ampthill by going down Woburn Street now the (B530) in those days it was at lot quieter, turning left into the Fordfield road and then going into Millbrook woods just a short way down. Most Sundays we would play paper chase on the many tracks around the wood.
